2010 - Sleddale

The 32nd Saunders Lakeland Mountain Marathon started from Wet Sleddale reservoir near Shap. Hot and sunny weather on day 1 saw the longer courses heading north from the start to cross Haweswater below the foot of the dam. The courses then headed west onto the High Street ridge before turning south towards the overnight camp in Longsleddale. For the shorter courses it was a more direct route to the overnight camp across Swindale Common, taking in a few summits along the way.

By Sunday morning the cloud had come down, and despite a mainly dry start heavy rain and strong winds quickly set it. Poor visibility provided a more challenging environment than the previous day, as competitors made their way through Mosedale, Swindale and Mardale back to the assembly area.

The race organisers would like to acknowledge and thank Lowther Estates, United Utilities, Natural England, the Lake District National Park Authority and the commoners and tenant farmers helped us to stage this event.
